D.C. bakery Canadian Sweets and Treats boasts a pretty great tagline: "The only Canadian bakery in the U.S. Eh..?" They've also released a new menu item they're calling the Tourtiere Hot Pocket, though it bears little resemblance to the junky frozen food of the same name.
The hot pocket actually looks just like a pop tart, but the inside is savory. A twist on a Canadian specialty, the bakery's Clareen O'Conner tells Eater the meat pie is double-crusted and filled with pork, potato, carrot, onion and seasoning. "It's great as a snack or a quick meal on the go," she says. They're fully baked, then frozen, so they can be heated up later.
The dish retails at $6.95. The bakery serves up several other Canadian-influenced baked items, like Saskatoon berry tarts, "chestnuts" with chocolate maple drizzle and dark chocolate flourless "hockey puck cakes."
