Vinoteca to Get New Bar, General Facelift

Missy Frederick is the Cities Director for Eater.

Skip the Vinoteca happy hour plans this week. The U Street bar has closed temporarily so it can get a minor refresh after more than six years in business.

The restaurant closed today and will reopen Feb. 28. During the time it is closed, workers will revamp the bar area and dining room. The bar area will feature a concrete bar top and go back to the space's original exposed brick. The owners also brought in wood from a MIchigan Ash tree which they'll use for a rustic slab on top of one of the bars, and use for flooring. The general idea is to make the space more "comfortable and neutral," according to owner Paul Carlson, who is used to hearing the restaurant described as "modern" or "contemporary."
