Where:The Shops at Crystal City
600 Crystal Dr, Arlington, Va.
When:Saturday 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.
What: Crystal City's annual, not-too-strenuous 1k Wine Walk is back. Participants get a passport and get to try various different wine vintages (and beers). It's $40 for the event, sponsored by Washington Wine Academy. The walks begin at the Landing (here's a map).
2) Watch the Caps game at Carmine's
Where:Carmine's
425 7th St. NW
When:Sunday at 11 a.m.
What:Carmine's is opening early on Sunday to make room for those Caps fans who want to load up on meatballs before the game at 12:30. They'll have the full menu available, plus happy hour specials at the bar. Not so into bringing leftover eggplant into Verizon Center? The restaurant will "valet check" any leftovers so customers can pick them up after the game.
3) Oyster Tasting
Where: BlackSalt
4883 MacArthur Blvd.
When: Saturday from 3-5 pm.
What: BlackSalt has put together a Roederer Sparkling Wine and Barren Island Oyster Tasting (they're calling it "Bubbles and Barres"). Tim Devine of Barren Island Oysters will lead the event, which will feature oysters prepared in a variety of ways, paired with the wines. The cost is $70 and reservations are needed.
4) Mardi Gras Bar Crawl
Where:Six Penn Quarter bars
When:Saturday, Noon-10 p.m.
What:Hundreds of day drinkers will descent upon Penn Quarter to celebrate Mardi Gras a little early. A ticket gets attendees masks, beads and favors, plus access to the bars and specials. Bars such as Cuba Libre and Penn Social are participating. More info here.
5) Peruvian Cooking Class
Where:Del Campo
777 I St. NW
When:Saturday 12-3
What: Chef Victor Albisu will teach a class in Peruvian cooking class at Del Campo, inspired by a recent trip to Peru. Participants will learn how to make ceviche, ajiaco (meat seew), butifarra sandwiches, roast pig and a number of other dishes. There will be cocktail pairings as well. The cost is $98 per person.
