May 9: That's the opening date for Paladar Latin Kitchen & Rum Bar. The restaurant, which originated in Cleveland, is poised to open its second location in the area at the intersection of Leesburg Pike and Old Gallows Road (the first opened in Rockville; there's another one a bit further away in Annapolis).

The restaurant specializes in Central, South American and Caribbean cuisine (with some Cuban notes). There will be more than 50 rums available at the Tysons restaurant, which has room for 185 people. Popular menu items include ropa vieja, guacamole, ceviche and crab croquetas. There will be rum flights and brunch, too, as well as both a seven day a week and a late night happy hour.

A Gaithersburg location of the chain is planned for summer 2014.
