Innkeepers Neal and Star Wavra are leaving The Ashby Inn, according to a note on its Facebook page:
After four plus years at the Ashby, our time has come to an end. We remain committed to all of you and regret not having the opportunity to say goodbye in person. Know you have our sincerest gratitude for the many wonderful experiences we shared and the memories we will cherish. We look forward to what the future may hold and hope it includes connecting with all of you again soon. Fondly, Neal & Star."
Neal Wavra also served as sommelier for the restaurant, which was known for its keen focus on Virginia wines. Eater has reached out to the Inn for any additional information on the departure, including who might replace them.
This is the second high-profile exit the Ashby Inn has experienced over the past year or so. Acclaimed chef Tarver King left in August for a new position at the Restaurant at Patowmack Farm. He was replaced by David Dunlap.
Update: Neal Wavra posted on Don Rockwell's site that he will be looking to promote Virginia's wine industry in the future in some capacity, and will also work with John and Karen Shields at their new Riverstead project.
