The James Beard Award nominations are out, and one thing seems to remain clear from year to year — the semi-finalist nominations tend to get D.C.'s collective hopes up. Though several Washington chefs and restaurants were recognized last month as semi finalists, including Rose's Luxury and Marcel's, only a couple made the final cut and earned nominations.
But never fear — D.C. still received some recognition in the Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic category. Just like last year, Restaurant Eve's Cathal Armstrong and Rasika's Vikram Sunderam were nominated (Baltimore's Spike Gjerde and Cindy Wolf, as well as Philadelphia's Brad Spence, round out the category). A D.C. chef snagged a win in the category last year (Komi's Johnny Monis).
D.C.'s food media was also recognized, including such Washington Post food writers as Eli Saslow, Monica Hesse and Tamar Haspel, as well as the Washingtonian's Taste section. Eater D.C.'s sister site, Eater National was nominated for the second year in a row for the Group Food Blog category. Here's the full list of nominees, also available on Eater National.
