John Shields' Georgetown Restaurant Isn't Happening

Missy Frederick is the Cities Director for Eater.

Sad news for John and Karen Shields fans: Tom Sietsema reports today that their deal for a Georgetown restaurant has fallen through. "We couldn't make the numbers work," the chef tells Sietsema.

The chef had originally planned to open a restaurant at 1050 Potomac St. NW. He says he's still actively looking for a space for a D.C. restaurant, though, so time will tell where he ends up.

In the meantime, the former Town House chef will do some cooking in Virginia. He and his wife, a pastry chef, will do dinners at the Riverstead Inn, which used to house guests at Town House. It's in Chilhowie, Va. (about five hours from here), beginning in April.
