1) Dupont Circle: Rebellion, the city's newest whiskey bar, has opened its doors. Barred in DC has some photos and early details. The bar has more than 50 types of whiskey, plenty of beer and a Southern-influenced menu. Status: Opening today. 1836 18th Street NW; website.

2) Clarendon: Nicecream Factory, which uses liquid nitrogen in its ice cream preparation, has opened where Red Mango used to be. The Nicecream folks have also been making the rounds at area farmers markets. ARLNOW reports the place has been packed during its first few days of business. Status: Open. 2831 Clarendon Blvd.; website.

3) Chilhowie: It's out of Eater's coverage area, but worth noting that Chefs John and Karen Shields, the Virginia chef couple who have toyed with opening in D.C. in the past, have opened Riverstead in Southwestern Virginia. Status: Opening today. 454 Loves Mill Road, Chilhowie, Va. website.
