Mandalay Restaurant is closing its doors in Shaw.

The restaurant was the second from owner Aung Myint, who also owns Mandalay in Silver Spring. The Burmese restaurant is closing because Myint has to return to Burma to deal with two deaths in the family, according to a press release from Shaw Main Streets. A dim sum restaurant will replace it, according to Young & Hungry, which first reported the closure. No immediate details about the new restaurant was available (Myint still owns the building that housed Mandalay).

Mandalay opened in Shaw last fall. It received some criticism for its tasting menu-only format (different from the original location).
