José Andrés gave the commencement address at George Washington University over the weekend. Why Andrés? The chef says he asked himself the same question (even his daughters suspected he had been asked to cook lunch rather than speak). "I''m not one of the coolest first ladies ever, obviously, and I have not been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize …yet," Andrés said in his speech.

Stars including Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Morgan Freeman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sam Waterston and more introduced the chef.

In his speech, Andrés talks about his own background, where he dropped out of high school to go to culinary school and received his education from the "kitchen of life," as he put it. He talks of wanting to make his father proud, He advises the graduates not to be afraid of rejection, and talks about the "new American Dream," which involves making an impact on the world. There's an obligatory "tapas" versus "topless" joke, too. Watch the whole thing.
