Next up for Mike Isabella — a Mexican cantina in Arlington. The chef plans to open Pepita next year near the upcoming Kapnos.
The restaurant will be located at 4000 Wilson Blvd. (near Quincy Street) in Ballston. It will open early next year. In a press release, the chef says he wants to evoke the feeling of being on vacation in a Mexican coastal resort. Expect wood finishes, greenery, fresh produce and windows that open into a patio.
There will only be a dozen items on the menu, including daily specials made of roasted suckling pig. Tacos, salsas, guacamole, ceviche and other items will be served for lunch and dinner. He's planning a big tequila selection, too, and plenty of margaritas.
This will be the chef's second flirtation with Mexican food, after his previous association with Bandolero in Georgetown (he is no longer affiliated with the restaurant).
