Rasika's Vikram Sunderam Wins James Beard Award

A D.C. chef has taken home the Best Chef Mid-Atlantic James Beard Award again. Rasika's own Vikram Sunderam was given the honor last night at a ceremony in New York City.

Sunderam was one of two D.C. nominees up for the category (frequent nominee Cathal Armstrong of Restaurant Eve was also considered). Last year, Komi's Johnny Monis won the same award.

For the past couple of years, Sunderam has been overseeing not only the original Rasika in Penn Quarter, but Rasika West End as well. His high-end Indian cooking is among the most well-regarded in the country. The original Rasika has been one of critic Tom Sietsema's few four star restaurants lately, too.

Also receiving James Beard Awards last night — pastry chef Dominique Ansel (of the infamous cronut), Boston restaurateur Barbara Lynch, April Bloomfield of New York gastropub The Spotted Pig and many more. Head on over to Eater National for the full list of winners.
