Urbana Will Double the Size of its Bar

Urbana will close for five weeks, beginning July 1 July 14, to undergo $600,000 worth of changes to its interior.

The Kimpton hotel plans to double the size of its bar area, move its private dining room, improve the patio and in general just make the place a bit more free-flowing. GrizForm Design Architects is handling the refresh.

After the changes, there will be a double-sided bar, 28 new bar seats and 22 new lounge seats. Urbana's always been a big destination for happy hours, so this will help with that. The private dining will be relocated closer to the lobby, and the area will be soundproofed with fabric-wrapped ceiling sound panels and other touches. The patio will be redone in shades of blue, gold and red. The restaurant will keep its tile walls and pizza bar. New lighting and surfaces will be added as well.

The restaurant will reopen in early August with an updated cocktail program and even more pasta and gluten-free offerings.
