There was plenty of food and drink to go around at Tuesday night's grand opening for the Marriott Marquis hotel downtown. Sushi, oysters, softshell crab "corn dogs", hamburgers, tacos and charcuterie were among the food offerings. And for drinks, there was both an "interactive bourbon bar" (where guests could check in and receive the recipes for the whiskey cocktails digitally) and four different spins on the Moscow Mule. Attendees voted on their favorite mini-Mule, which will now appear on the menu at the hotel bar.
The mules were served in cute mini Moscow Mule glasses, and perhaps unsurprisingly, the cups proved to be a temptation for guests to steal. The hotel's director of event planning tells Eater they started the night with 1200 cups and ended it with around 800. Some bartenders told Eater they were predicting even more would be lifted, given they were witnessing partygoers slipping them into purses throughout the evening.
In the meantime, there are still plenty left if the hotel decides to use them for future events, a spokesman says.
