The transformation of Pharmacy Bar is almost complete. The former bar at 2337 18th St. NW, which recently came under new ownership, will soon be known as Troublemaker Coffee Bar & Public House.
Co-owner Reggie Elliott says the name was inspired by several factors, including the colloquial translation of Nelson Mandela's middle name (and the idea of historical influencers being thought of as "troublemakers" by their enemies), not to mention Adams Morgan's own reputation for debauchery (despite Elliott's opinion that it's "actually a pretty chill place."). Oh, and also Apple's "Think Different" campaign. Guess they've given this some thought.
At any rate, the owners know they're going to have to contend with a clientele that was very loyal to the old incarnation of Pharmacy Bar. In a statement, Elliott says, "All we can promise is that we intend to make Troublemaker exactly the kind of space that we ourselves would love to hang out at."
Troublemaker will serve coffee during the day and act as a chill bar during the evening. No official date for the reopening was given, but the bar is charting their progress on Facebook.
Update: Elliott sent out a second statement to press this afternoon to say the name has not yet officially been adopted.
