Wes Morton is leaving Art and Soul to relocate to Louisiana.
Replacing the chef is chef de cuisine Douglas Alexander. The new chef will take Morton's place at the Art Smith restaurant within the Liaison Capitol Hill hotel on August 1.
Morton has decided to move to Lafayette, Louisiana to open his own Southern restaurant, according to a press release. Alexander joined Art & Soul in 2011, having formerly worked at several restaurants in Portland, Oregon. Both chefs are veterans of Againn, the now-shuttered gastropub which used to be where Casa Luca is now.
Alexander is the chef behind Angry Chef Hot Sauce, a company he began after a Kickstarter fundraiser. He plans to keep the restaurant's menu similar, but will add some new dishes such as an heirloom tomato and bacon salad and smoked beer and cheese sausage.
