Maketto is still a couple months away. But that hasn't stopped Vigilante Coffee, which hopes to have its flagship store there, from opening its first permanent cafe in Hyattsville.
The location will have its grand opening this Saturday at 4327 Gallatin Street. The roastery will give the company, which has been two years in the making at area farmers market and pop-ups, a home base for roasting its beans. There's a small standing room cafe at the location as well, which is located within a 3,000 square foot old Model T-Ford showroom (formerly known as the Palmer Ford Showroom).
Chris Vigilante says the location "has been built into a beautiful space with tons of natural light and open space. Coming to Hyattsville made sense in that we wanted to position ourselves in a smaller neighborhood with our first wholesale Roastery & Coffee Bar while still having close proximity to Washington D.C. where many of our wholesale partners are."
The restaurant's flagship retail location is still planned for Maketto. They'll relocate their small 6 pound Diedrich Roaster to that location when it opens so they can create single origin coffees specifically for Maketto. They're also upgrading their roaster at the wholesale roaster to increase their capacity by four times its current output.
