Chaplin, the new cocktail bar inspired by the silent movie star from brothers Ari and Micah Wilder, is hoping to open its doors this Wednesday. Elaborate drinks and Asian-inspired food will be on the menu.
Chaplin plans to serve homemade noodles, dumplings, ramen and family style roasts (there are even "drunken" dumplings for the over 21 crowd). The drinks are named after Charlie Chaplin films like The Tramp and The Pilgrim. The restaurant plans to use some interesting techniques to make them (including a promised laughing gas cocktail spiked with helium).
Maggie O'Neill of SwatchRoom designed the restaurant, which has seats for 83 diners, plus a 16 set bar and an eventual 80-seat patio. Look for a 20s-style mural with an icon of the performer, plus a multiple-level space with art deco-looking light fixtures and other old school touches, like a rotary phone on the wall — and a piano.
