DC Harvest Will Open in August, Emphasize Service

Missy Frederick is the Cities Director for Eater.

Sure, the food will be good, he says. But co-owner Jared Ringel is particularly focused on the service part of the equation as he prepares to open the upcoming DC Harvest in the Atlas District.

Aiming for an Aug 27 opening, DC Harvest is opening in a two-story space at 517 H St. NE. The restaurant will serve seasonal, American food from Ringel's brother Arthur (homemade pastas, seafood and more). Both brothers are longtime veterans of the food industry. Jared worked on the business side, in both fine dining and chain restaurants, recently operating Homemade Pizza Company franchises. Arthur Ringel has cooked in such kitchens as Hank's Oyster Bar, Napoleon, Cafe Bonaparte, BLT Steak and Vermillion.

"No one is doing quite what we're doing [on this side of H Street,]" Ringel said. The restaurant is being designed by Edit Lab at Streetsense, with a "modern farmhouse" feel. "We're here for the long term; you'll see me in the front of the house and the bar, and see Arthur in the kitchen," he said.

Ringel wants the restaurant to be customer-oriented and unpretentious; they'll be more than happy to accommodate menu modifications and special requests from diner, and the goal is to develop regulars they know by name. They'll have a kids menu with homemade items, and plan for the place to be casual and family-friendly.
