Ashok Bajaj's The Oval Room reopens today after a $1 million refresh courtesy of designer Martin Vahtra of Projects Design Associates of New York.
The restaurant's new look features marble flooring (and a marble bar), a darker color scheme (with burgundys and browns), and new artwork (including a painting from Jennifer Bartlett).
With the new look comes a new menu. Chef Tony Conte is adding a four course $60 menu, as well as a $20 bar lunch special. The restaurant will also launch a weekday happy hour with 20 percent off drinks at the bar. Simon Stilwell, formerly of Rasika, is now manager of the restaurant.
Some of Conte's new menu items include fluke with coconut and togarashi, burrata with a vegetable salad, smoked sweetbreads, lobster in saffron ginger broth and more. Status: Reopening today. 800 Connecticut Ave. NW; website.
