Ceiba is Closing After 11 Years Downtown

Missy Frederick is the Cities Director for Eater.

Longtime downtown Latin restaurant Ceiba is closing near the end of the month.

The last day for the restaurant will be Sept. 27, according to a press release from Passion Food Hospitality. "It was a challenging and heartfelt decision for the partners, but with much review of the varied external factors, closing the doors was the best course of action," the release said.

Ceiba opened in 2003 at 701 14th St. NW, serving up dishes like ceviche and classy spins on empanadas. The restaurant renovated its design in May 2013.

Passion Food has closed restaurants before; their Penn Quarter Asian fusion restaurant Ten Penh closed in 2011. Since then, though, they've opened several other properties, most recently Penn Commons. They'll next open a second location of Passionfish in Bethesda.
