Arepa Zone, PhoWheels Win Big at Food Truck Awards

D.C.'s food trucks now have their own group of awards, and Venezuelan truck Arepa Zone and Vietnamese offering PhoWeels were among the winners.

The votes were cast online throughout August and the winners were announced over the weekend at the Curbside Cookoff event thrown by the DMV food truck association.

Food Truck of the Year: Arepa Zone
Chef of the Year: Huy Nguyen, PhoWheels
Dessert Chef of the Year: Mounir Elhilali, Crepes Parfait
Outstanding Customer Service: Rito Loco
Best New Food Truck: Arepa Zone
Breakthrough Dish: Sifrina Arepa, Arepa Zone
Food Truck Design of the Year: PhoWheels
Best Five Buck Bite: Crabster Slider, Feelin' Crabby

The event also featured some cook-off battles, where chefs from such trucks as South Meets East, Crepes Parfait and Midnite Confection's Cupcakery took home awards.
