Grab a Danish at Bakers & Baristas, Now Open Where Tangysweet Used to Be

The Aaron Gordon project is inspired by Viennese coffeehouses and bakeries.

Missy Frederick is the Cities Director for Eater.

Bakers & Baristas opened this morning at 501 7th St. NW. The project from Aaron Gordon (Drafting Table) is a collaboration with consulting pastry chef Naomi Gallego and executive pastry chef Lindsay Meehan.

The team has come together to offer pastries made from European ingredients, like a cherry pistachio braid danish, a cheese pretzel danish, brioche filled with citrus, Viennese finger cookies and more. Compass Coffee is handling the caffeine side of the equation. There are also sandwiches for lunch.

KUBE Architecture designed the space, which has room for 32 people with warm colors, multiple types of seatings and an earthy color scheme. The bakery is initially open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Evening hours will begin Feb. 5. Status: Certified open. 501 7th St. NW; website.
