Food Writer David Hagedorn Was Busy Cooking Calf's Liver in the 90s

Some old menus from the former chef's past.

The 1990s were practically a lifetime ago for food writer and Washington Post columnist David Hagedorn — back then, he was practicing an entirely different career as a chef.

Hagedorn shared some photos from his restaurant days from Eater, both from now-shuttered restaurants. West End Cafe's menu is from around 1990 or so, he says. The Trumpets menu is from spring and summer, 1997.

See dishes like tequila-marinated veal tenderloin and "grilled basket woven asparagus with a not really sauce Maltaise of saffron and orange."
