Old Ebbitt Grill continues to be a monster when it comes to restaurant sales. The D.C. institution was ranked sixth on Restaurant Business Magazine's annual Top 100 Independents list.
Old Ebbitt, which frequently makes this list, reported $28,056,008 in sales and an average check of $37 per person to the publication (the rankings are based on 2014 figures). Many of the stats on the lists have the caveat of "estimated sales," though Old Ebbitt doesn't. Also on the list for D.C.: Joe's Seafood, which was ranked #16 (an estimated $20.5 million in sales), The Hamilton at #20 with $18.4 million in sales, The Source (ranked #33 with $16.7 million in sales), Le Diplomate (#41 at $16.1 million) and Sequoia (#53 at $15.2 million) and out in Springfield, Mike's American ((#80 at $13.4 million).
Topping the list, as it did last year, was Tao Asian Bistro in Las Vegas, which makes $47 million in a year. The list defines independents as restaurants with no more than five locations, unless they share a name with a chain but are owned and operated independently.
