Coasters at Off the Record Get Political; Michael Schlow Plans New Restaurant

DOWNTOWN Off The Record (the bar inside The Hay-Adams) has commissioned political cartoonist Matt Wuerker to portray 18 different politicians on their drink coasters. The newest additions include Scott Walker, Bernie Sanders and Marco Rubio, with more to come by the end of the month. Guests are free to request the coaster of their choice and keep it after using. MT. VERNON TRIANGLEMichael Schlow, owner of Tico and The Riggsby, is opening another restaurant at 465 K St. NW reports Washington City Paper. It will be the third location of Alta Strada. The Italian restaurant already has locations in Wellesley, Mass. and in Mashantucket, Conn. [WCP]

NOMA The second annual Chef's Roast is taking place on October 26th at 6 p.m. at Union Market. Honoring Tom Colicchio, it benefits the Chef Action Network (CAN) and Food Policy Action (FPA). MSNBC's Alex Wagner will host the event with special guest Padma Lakshmi and chefs Richard Blais, Spike Mendelsohn, Sam Talbot, Erik Bruner-Yang and David Guas.
