Calorie-conscious diners can find the intel they need at Balkan restaurant Ambar, starting December 1 — at least during lunch service.
The Barracks Row restaurant has decided to voluntarily add calorie counts to its lunch menu. Diners will see calorie counts for such items as salads, gluten-free sandwiches and soups. The restaurant said the move came out of a desire from customers to eat healthier.
It's pretty rare in D.C. for an independent restaurant to list calorie counts, though several chains, like Sweetgreen and Cava Grill, do so. Places such as Montgomery County have legislation requiring counts for chains, but it's generally not as prevalent in the region as it is in some other major metropolitan areas.
