It’s opening day for Convivial, chef Cedric Maupillier’s follow-up restaurant to Mintwood Place. This one is inside the City Market at O building in Shaw.

It will be less traditional than the Adams Morgan restaurant. Maupillier says of the minimal interior, "The look is more urban rustic in design. It has more clean lines. I wanted to emphasize a different feel with light and create a warm glow. We wanted to make it more comfortable." Here’s a look inside. There's also paneling on the ceiling and felt on the walls to absorb noise.

The French-American menu (available below) is divided into sections like nibbles, cold dishes, hot dishes, cheese and desserts. "It will be easy to share. Convivial’s portions will be smaller without being stingy or tapas plates," says Maupillier. Highlights include a duck egg beignet with feta, veal tartare and lamb tongue moussaka. Status: Opening today. 801 O St. NW; website.
