Restaurants are about more than just what's on the plate. The vibe and decor of restaurants are integral to the entire experience.
This year in D.C., there were certainly some themes — exposed brick and Edison light bulbs aren't going away anytime soon — but there were also restaurants that found new ways to stand out, whether it be unique murals, splashes of bright color, sophisticated patios and homey touches. Eater singled out five this year for the Eater Awards' Stone-Cold-Stunner category. Eater readers selected three finalists — Provision No. 14, Maketto and SER — and a winner will be announced next Monday.
In anticipation of the awards, here are some photos of the five nominated restaurants, which also included China Chilcano and Masseria, courtesy of Eater photographer Rey Lopez. Take a closer look at these five very different restaurants, all located in different neighborhoods across the city.
