Attention, Beefsteak fans: The vegetable-focused, fast casual restaurant from chef José Andrés plans to open a third outpost in Tenleytown.
The restaurant is planning a March opening next year, joining the two other locations that are open in Dupont Circle and Foggy Bottom.
There's also a plan for Beefsteak to grow beyond the Beltway. Executive chef Pat Peterson says a fourth restaurant will open next year in Philadelphia on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.
"We’re always looking for new locations," Peterson says. "But, we also hope to continue expanding within the D.C. region."
The news of a Tenleytown Beefsteak might be easier to swallow than a November announcement that Chick-fil-A might open in the neighborhood, which sparked some opposition and an online petition against fast food and unhealthy food choices for children.
Peterson told Eater DC that he's aware of the neighborhood outcry to Chick-fil-A, and he says a restaurant like Beefsteak is different. "It sort of reinforces what we’re trying to do here," he says. "We want to be a flavorful alternative that offers health and quality."
