It's been about three weeks since Summer House Santa Monica opened in Maryland's new Pike & Rose development, bringing California-inspired cuisine to Rockville. But are early diners buying into the restaurant's West Coast vision? Here's what the first Yelpers and bloggers had to say:
The Seafood News: The restaurant currently has 22 reviews and 4.5 stars on Yelp. And it seems like Yelpers are gravitating toward Summer House Santa Monica's seafood selection. The ahi tuna tacos kept coming up positively in Yelp reviews, with James M. writing, calling them "not too shabby." And Catherine P really liked her dish, writing on Yelp, "I woke up this morning with confirmation of how great our dinner at Summer House was. I opened my eyes and smiled with the knowledge that last night's leftovers awaited me. When was the last time you craved rainbow trout for breakfast?" [Yelp]
The Vegetarian News: If you don't eat fish or meat, be warned. Yelpers thought vegetarian options were lacking. Yelper Maureen N. wrote, "Although the food was good, there's on the menu little for a vegetarian." The Decor News: Maybe Summer House Santa Monica opened at a good time, because the restaurant's beachy decor is a big draw. Yelper Haley M said, " During the dead of winter, this opening lifted my spirits! The ambiance delivers with this casual, Californian style." Sahar R. wrote on Yelp, "It's like they made a Restoration Hardware store into a restaurant. Every thing is a pristine white, with a beach theme, thousands of twinkling little lights everywhere. On Instagram, Healthy Glow Blog writes, "If you have a chance stop by North Bethesda, MD's Summer House Santa Monica, it is super cute! It is a chic oasis in the middle of suburbia." The Price News: Sam L. on Yelp compares Summer House to nearby chains, writing, "Summer House is consistently more expensive than their competitors, with similar food quality but with smaller portions." [Yelp]
The Cookie News: The bakery counter is making a big impression. Yelper Pap P wrote, "Don't leave without taking home some of their cookies and brownies." Ann P agreed, writing. "This place has such melt in your mouth cookies. Their cookies are homemade to perfection. Their recipe is clearly unique and it's clear the Baker knew what they were doing. I would say if you are limiting your sugar intake, splurge on a cookie from here. You know what... if your gonna splurge on sugar make it at least count!" [Yelp]
