The Washington Post's report on the University of Maryland's real estate acquisitions and master plan to create a new main street along Route 1 in College Park contains an interesting tidbit about a new Kapnos outpost. The Post reports that the university is building a new 276-room hotel with Southern Management Corp. across Route 1 that will house four restaurants, including a Kapnos from Chef Mike Isabella. Construction on the hotel has already begun. There are currently two Kapnos locations, one on U Street and the newly-opened Ballston location, with a Kapnos in the works in Bethesda.
The upcoming College Park hotel will also house a Potomac Pizza, Bagels ‘n Grinds and a new restaurant from the owners of Franklins in Hyattsville. The University of Maryland is also planning to partner with Philadelphia's MilkBoy to build ArtHouse, a restaurant that will host live music and film screenings. ArtHouse will be housed in the former home of the Barking Dog.
