D.C. nominees for James Beard Awards include Toki Underground's Erik-Bruner Yang and Bread Furst's Mark Furstenberg.
Bruner-Yang was nominating in the Rising Star category, while Furstenberg is up for Outstanding Baker. The James Beard Foundation is currently live-tweeting the nominees.
D.C. was completely shut out of the Best Chef Mid-Atlantic Category, despite having multiple chefs named as semi-finalists. Spike Gjerde of Woodberry Kitchen in Baltimore, as well as Cindy Wolf of Charleston, received nods in that category, as well as several chefs from Philadelphia. Edward Lee, who will soon open a restaurant at National Harbor near D.C., received a nod for Best Chef Southeast.
A full list of nominees will be available on Eater National; they're currently following along live. UPDATE: Here it is.
In the media categories, local nominees include NPR's "All Things Considered" for its Found Recipes series, The Washington Post's M. Carrie Allan in wine and beverage writing and The Washington Post's Tamar Haspel for her food column.
