Missy Frederick is the Cities Director for Eater.

An Asian-influenced neighborhood restaurant, a temple to meat and a waterfront seafood destination were among the best new restaurants in D.C. last year, according to the city's restaurant association.

The nominations for the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington were announced at an event at the Hamilton Monday evening. Winners of the awards will be revealed at a gala scheduled for June 7.

There are several rules surrounding the awards. All nominees must be members of the association itself. Some categories have restrictions regarding when or how long the restaurant has been open. And some final winners will be decided by an anonymous panel of judges, while others are voted on by the public.
