Proof and Red Hen Vet to Lead Kitchen at The Scarlet Oak

Navy Yard, get ready for a 1,000-square-foot patio and bottomless mimosas on the weekend.

Construction is currently underway for Scarlet Oak, a new restaurant from the same ownership group as Southern Hospitality in Adams Morgan. The 3,400-square-foot Scarlet Oak will open on the ground floor of 909 New Jersey Ave., SE, and the menu is based around casual American fare. Chef Leo Garcia will open the restaurant, and according to a press release, his resume includes positions at Proof and Red Hen. Expect to find small plates, sandwiches and entrees on Scarlet Oak's menu, with some favorites from Southern Hospitality as well.

In addition to a full-service bar and dining room, Scarlet Oak will boast a 1,000 square-foot patio. At the bar, find rotating craft beers, specialty cocktails and an extensive wine list. On weekends and holidays, Scarlet Oak will also serve brunch with bottomless mimosas. Update: A rep for Scarlet Oak tells Eater, "We are slated for early summer, hopefully by the end of June."
