Does weed pair well with falafel? Amsterdam Falafel seems to think so.
The falafel chain is introducing a pot-pairing menu in anticipation of the marijuana-centric date, April 20 (4/20) later this month. They've come up with five different sandwich combinations that will enhance five widely-found strains of of the substance. The menu will be available through April 20 and the Adams Morgan and 14th Street locations will offer $4.20 sandwiches on the day in question as well.
For example, the Lemon Haze sandwich consists of " a swipe of hummus, yogurt sauce, garlic parsley, crunchy onions, Turkish salad and pickled cauliflower. The menu reads: "The aroma of the marijuana Lemon Haze strain is zesty, citrusy, and a little sweet. The toppings enhance the high with bold, tart flavors and varied textures. The pot/sandwich pairing has been known to introduce energy and creativity." Pairings are also listed for the OG Kush, Afghani, Cabbage Patch and Cactus varieties of pot.
The menu will be available at the original Amsterdam Falafel in Adams Morgan. But depending on its reception, they may expand the offering to locations around D.C. and in Boston.
The initiative legalizing marijuana in D.C. went into effect in February. Since then, restaurants and food purveyors have embraced the spirit of the law which such measures as an Initiative #71-themed cocktail at District Commons and a Smells Like Freedom collaboration beer from DC Brau with "aromas of cannabis."
