CityCenterDC finally gets a restaurant from a local chef when Amy Brandwein's Centrolina debuts to the public. Right now, the veteran of Casa Nonna and Alba Osteria plans to open her restaurant June 1, with its accompanying market opening May 26. Here are some takeaways:
*The restaurant and market will be 4,075-square-foot in size, with an outdoor patio. Local firm CORE designed the space with neutral colors (as well as some turquoise and fuschia accents), a terra cotta oven, artwork from Piero Passacantando and pottery from New York-based Jane Herold.
*The market will sell specialty goods from Italy, along with meat, fish and produce. Expect a selection of fresh and dried pastas and ingredients Brandwein uses in her day to day cooking.
*The coffee bar will serve dishes like fried bombolini doughnuts for breakfast. It will transition to a mini-cocktail bar at night.
*On the menu: a rotating selection of about 15 dishes, with items like octopus and burrata as antipasti, fresh pastas like pappardelle with lamb ragu and mains like tuna with bone marrow.
*The cocktail list will emphasize Italian wines and local beers, with a small selection of Italian cocktails.
