Though two D.C. chefs were nominated for James Beard awards, neither ended up taking home prizes last night in Chicago.
Erik Bruner-Yang of Toki Underground and Maketto was a nominee for Rising Star Chef of the Year. The winner in that category was Jessica Largey of California's Manresa restaurant (Eater 's staff endorsed Bruner-Yang in that category).
Meanwhile, Bread Furst's Mark Furstenberg was nominated in the Outstanding Baker category. New York's Jim Lahey took home the prize instead.
D.C. had only two nominees this year at the Beards, the industry's most coveted award, and had no representation in such major categories as Best Chef Mid-Atlantic. That award went to Baltimore's Spike Gjerde of Woodberry Kitchen.
