Largent's Restaurant & Bar in Gaitherburg is closing. The restaurant's team announced the closure on its Facebook page.
The news is a surprise since chef Michael Harr, formerly of Food, Wine & Co., had recently announced plans to work with the restaurant on a revamp. According to the Washington Post, it was to be renamed Kentland's Kitchen by the end of the summer.
The circumstances of the closing are unclear right now. Harr gave the following statement to Eater:
"For a variety of reasons Kentlands Kitchen will not become a reality. While I am personally upset by the circumstances that led to this decision I want to thank everyone I worked with, met from the community and supported Largent's and awaited Kentlands Kitchen.
I have grown very fond of the local community and I hope my next project is on this area."
Posters on Don Rockwell noted the location has a history of restaurants struggling there.
UPDATE: The Town Courier reports Largent's was operating at a large loss every month. The restaurant's owners and investors reportedly made an abrupt decision to close when they couldn't reach a financial agreement with the landlord, Beatty Management.
