Gypsy Soul Appears to Have Closed in Virginia

Gypsy Soul, R.J. Cooper's restaurant in the Mosaic District development in Merrifield, appears to have closed.

The restaurant was closed for lunch Monday and a worker answering the door said the closure is permanent. The menus have been removed from the display case outside the restaurant, and the curtains are drawn. Gypsy Soul's Facebook page and website appear to have been deactivated, and the phone number is not being answered.

Eater has reached out to chef R.J. Cooper, as well as developer Edens, which runs Mosaic District, for any additional information.

The restaurant has been in a legal dispute with its landlord over alleged unpaid rent. It has been operating for a year in the location.
