Mike Isabella is planning to open a seafood restaurant with former Top Chef contestant Jennifer Carroll. He's also taking over the Gypsy Soul space in Virginia.

Requin will be at the new southwest development The Wharf, currently under construction. The focus will be Mediterranean and French fish, and Carroll will run the menu herself (it's a similar partnership to the one Isabella has with Jonah Kim, who will soon open Yona in Ballston). Expect such touches as a cheese cart, seafood roasts and several grilled items (including steaks, too). It will be more than 4,000 square feet in size with a riviera-inspired design, and open in mid-2017. Expect an indoor/outdoor patio, too. Chefs such as Cathal Armstrong are also planning restaurants at the Southwest development.

Carroll and Isabella will do a pop-up to preview the restaurant in the former Gypsy Soul space this fall. More details on the pop-up will be announced on this website.

Also in store for the Gypsy Soul space: another Kapnos spin-off. The chef will open a location of Kapnos Kouzina (the same restaurant he's opening in Maryland) there in early 2016. R.J. Cooper's restaurant closed in the Mosaic District yesterday.

Isabella is so excited about the Wharf project that he's planning to buy a condo in the development, according to a report in The Washington Post.

More locations of Kapnos are on the way as well. A press release confirms plans to open one in College Park in early 2017, as well as at Reagan National Airport in September.
