Is Stetson's Closing on U Street?

The bar has been a longtime chill hangout.

It looks like Stetson's Famous Bar & Restaurant could be closing on U Street.

PoPville first reported rumors of the closure yesterday. A flier from Douglas Development advertises the space as up for rent as well. Eater has reached out to the brokers, and left email, Facebook and voicemail messages for Stetson's for any additional details or confirmation. The building had been listed for sale since early June.

Stetson's has operated as one of the more relaxed alternatives to busy U Street over the years. It opened in 1980 before the neighborhood's bar boom, and may have even operated as a speakeasy decades before that.
