Ruta del Vino is coming to Petworth, reports Washington City Paper. The name is Spanish for "the Wine Trail" and is an effort from Justin Logan, who serves as director of foreign policy studies at Libertarian think tank Cato Institute.
"We sort of think there’s no great Latin place in Petworth," Logan told WCP. So him and his wife, whom he met at the Cato Institute, are opening one.
The opening date isn't set just yet — perhaps next spring — though the location is: 800 Upshur St. NW. That's the location of the former Riyad Market, which is known for allegedly selling synthetic drugs.
While no chef has been hired just yet, the food focus will be dishes from a multitude of countries, including Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay; regional wines and themed booze are in the plans. There will not, however, be small plates.
