Duke's Counter to Replace Zoo Bar in Woodley Park

It's the second location for the Dupont Circle restaurant.

Missy Frederick is the Cities Director for Eater.

Speculation has been brewing over what would replace Zoo Bar, the beloved dive directly across the National Zoo (paper went up on the windows recently). Here's the answer: Duke's Counter.

This is the second location from the owners of the British-inspired Duke's Grocery. The menu will be similar, but a bit larger and include a children's section. There also will be a bigger draft selection, new food items like fish and chips, and hopefully a takeout menu, according to a press release.

The opening date estimate for the restaurant, located at 3000 Connecticut Ave. NW, is sometime later this year, but no specifics beyond that. Eugene Pirmatov will over see the front of the house.

Zoo Bar's owner died in summer of 2015; the bar closed later last year.
