Outdoor barbecue beer garden Garden District typically shutters to hibernate for the winter, but this time it’s going out with a festive bang.
Over the next month, the German-inspired restaurant will look and operate much like holiday markets found in Munich. Expect 10,000 twinkling lights in the heated beer garden, Christmas trees for sale, and a quarter mile of tinsel.
A new menu of holiday-themed boozy drinks (in addition to its normal lineup of German beers) includes Eggnog Shots, Miracle on 14th St Mulled Wine, Office Party Punch, Blitzen’s Blitzed Hot Cider, and more. For gift giving options, a holiday market tent will be set up Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays with local vendors selling vintage wares, jewelry, pottery, and ceramics.
After closing on Dec. 18, Garden District will reopen for the spring on March 1.
It’s not the only D.C. bar housing a holiday pop-up: last year’s Miracle on 7th Street takeover at Mockingbird Hill is back this year and expanding to adjoining bars Southern Efficiency and Eat the Rich.
