The Shutter

Two sad shutters to report today. First up is Rustik Tavern, an early pioneer in the Bloomingdale neighborhood. The bar and pizza joint, which closed Saturday, said on Facebook, “We are so grateful for the opportunity to have spent these past years with you, getting to know this amazing community and creating lasting memories... Thank you again for the fun times and for supporting us since 2010.” They did not cite a specific reason for the closure. [Washingtonian, FB]

Meanwhile, after just nine months of business, The BBQ Joint’s U Street location has closed. Owner Andrew Evans told Washington City Paper he couldn’t make the location work in the competitive U Street nightlife neighborhood. There’s still a branch of the barbecue restaurant at Union Market, as well as two in Maryland. [WCP]
