Old Town import Hen Quarter arrives in downtown Silver Spring on Monday, serving up comfort food amid a rustic farmhouse feel.

Southern-style recipes and chicken rule the roster of menu items, with starters like deviled hen eggs and fried green tomatoes and mains ranging from chicken and waffles to shrimp and grits.

Cocktails are heavy on the bourbon, with more than 75 types available. Lunch and dinner service start this week, with weekend brunch coming after Christmas, according to Bethesda Magazine.

The 165-seat concept comes from Pheast Food Group, a subsidiary of Thompson Hospitality (the space was formerly Austin Grill, which is also operated by Thompson). New wall decor includes huge hanging utensils, chickens made of metal, warm blue tones, and reclaimed wood paneling throughout. An outdoor patio will add more seating in the spring.

Penn Quarter will get a Hen Quarter next year, the brand’s third location.
