The Wydown Team Will Open a Coffee Shop at The Apollo

The theater is aiming to reopen this fall.

Missy Frederick is the Cities Director for Eater.

Fans of The Wydown coffeehouse on 14th St. NW will get introduced to a similar project in the Atlas District later this year.

The team there has signed on to open a coffee shop in the Apollo, the development that will be housed on the former site of the historic Apollo Theatre. That project is aiming to open by fall of this year.

The Wydown owners will open a cafe connected to the Apollo's lobby, but it will have its own storefront and entrance, Alex McCracken tells Eater. "We were instantly interested in the project because Edit Lab at Streetsense is designing all of the interior of the Apollo, including our space," he said via email.

The cafe will have a different name, but share some characteristics with the Wydown, including its coffee offerings. They'll have a bakery featuring items cooked by McCracken's wife, pastry chef Sophie McCracken, as well as more late night offerings than their original cafe. Tito Pena will continue to direct the coffee program at both locations.
