Kinship and The Dabney Are Among This Year's James Beard Award Semifinalists

Plenty of D.C. representation, though time will tell who becomes a finalist.

The James Beard Foundation has released its long list of semifinalists, recognizing culinary achievement across the country. Several local chefs and restaurants were given nods, though it's important to remember that this is the "long list" of nominees: the finalists will be revealed March 15, and the winners come in May.

Here's the full list of nominees. Among the local highlights: The Dabney and Kinship are both being considered for the Best New Restaurant Category. Mark Furstenberg of Bread Furst is a potential nominee for Outstanding Baker. Barmini and Mockingbird Hill are up for Outstanding Bar Program. Aggie Chin of The Grill Room is a semifinalist in the Best Pastry Chef category. Rasika, as well as Jaleo, are being considered for Outstanding Restaurant, and Rasika owner Ashok Bajaj is up for Outstanding Restaurateur.

Komi and Marcel's are being considered for Outstanding Service. The Red Hen gets a nod for Outstanding Wine Program. Plenty of local chefs are in the running for Best Chef Mid-Atlantic, including Victor Albisu (Del Campo), Erik Bruner-Yang (Maketto), Peter Chang (Peter Chang Arlington), Tarver King (The Restaurant at Patowmack Farm), Cedric Maupillier (Convivial) and Aaron Silverman (Rose's Luxury).
