Missy Frederick is the Cities Director for Eater.

The new restaurant coming to Kimpton's Morrison House hotel has a name: Ashlar Restaurant and Bar.

The restaurant will serve Mid-Atlantic food and is designed to be an upscale tavern. Fortified wines will be one of the bar's specialties. Chef Bobby Surdam (most recently of Red Owl Tavern in Philadelphia) will run the kitchen. L.A.-based DH Design is designing the space (the name comes from a masonic word, a nod to Alexandria's longtime connection to the masons), which has 32 seats and an 18-seat bar. Maria Tan of Baltimore's B&O American Brasserie is in charge of the beverage program.

Find Ashlar at 116 South Alfred Street come spring.
